Steve Martin

Stephen Glenn "Steve" Martin (born August 14, 1945) is an American actor, comedian, writer, playwright, producer, musician, and composer. He was born in Waco, Texas, and raised in Southern California, where his early influences came from working at Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm, as well as performing magic and comedy acts at these and other local venues. His rise to fame began when he became a writer for *The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour*, and later appeared frequently as a guest on *The Tonight Show*. In the 1970s, he performed his distinctive, offbeat, and absurdist comedy routines to large audiences on national tours. Since the 1980s, having moved away from stand-up comedy, he has pursued a successful career as an actor, playwright, pianist, banjo player, and juggler, earning Emmy, Grammy, and American Comedy awards.
