Biography

John Wesley Dean III (born October 14, 1938) served as White House Counsel to U.S. President Richard Nixon from July 1970 until April 1973. During his tenure, he became deeply involved in events leading up to the Watergate burglaries and the subsequent cover-up. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) referred to him as "master manipulator of the cover-up." Dean pleaded guilty to a single felony count in exchange for becoming a key witness for the prosecution, which resulted in a reduced prison sentence served at Fort Holabird outside Baltimore, MD.

Currently, Dean is an author, columnist, and commentator on contemporary politics. He is strongly critical of conservatism and the Republican Party, and is a registered Independent who supported the impeachment of President George W. Bush.
