Stuart Saves the Universe debuts on HBO Max

Chuck Lorre’s unconventional spin‑off from The Big Bang Theory, Stuart Saves the Universe, finally launched as a ten‑episode series on HBO Max on July 23. The concept—centered on comic‑store employee Stuart (Kevin Sussman) discovering a portal to other dimensions—was initially rejected by network executives who preferred a more traditional continuation with the original cast. After shelving the idea temporarily, Lorre revived the project during the pandemic, enlisting co‑creator Bill Prady and sci‑fi writer Zak Penn to refine the script. The resulting action‑adventure comedy‑science‑fiction mashup marks Lorre’s first foray into a wholly new type of spin‑off.
