    Ronald Lee Ermey was an American actor and former U.S. Marine Corps staff sergeant who became widely known for his role as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in the 1987 film *Full Metal Jacket*. His portrayal of the intense and demanding drill instructor earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
