Biography

Peter Robert Jackson (born 31 October 1961) is a New Zealand film director, producer, actor, and screenwriter, best known for his *Lord of the Rings* film trilogy, adapted from the novel by J. R. R. Tolkien. He also directed the 2005 remake of *King Kong* and served as a producer for *District 9*. Jackson gained international attention early in his career with his "splatstick" horror comedies, and later achieved mainstream recognition with *Heavenly Creatures*, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Screenplay alongside his wife, Fran Walsh. Jackson has won three Academy Awards in his career, including the Best Director award in 2003.
