Director Halts Copyright Claims Against Backrooms Fan Art
A24 recently issued copyright strikes against fan art inspired by the Backrooms, a long-standing internet creepypasta. The controversy arose after users reported their work being removed, including depictions of the iconic yellow flock wallpaper. Following public backlash, director Kane Parsons intervened, clarifying that the takedowns were an error and that A24 does not claim ownership over the original concept or community works. A24 has since acknowledged the mistake and committed to supporting the creative community. The company stated that the strikes were the result of an automated system error and confirmed that the yellow wallpaper and related fan content remain in the public domain. Parsons has been actively working with A24 to resolve the issue and ensure future respect for fan creativity.
