Eric Hart

Christopher Michael Langan is an American horse rancher and former bar bouncer known for achieving a high score on the Mega Test, a self-administered, untimed, non-standardized IQ test. He took the test under the pseudonym Eric Hart and was listed in the Guinness Book of Records high IQ section alongside Marilyn vos Savant and Keith Raniere. The record was discontinued in 1990 due to the unreliability of documenting high IQs as world records. Langan, who has no college degree and twice dropped out of college, was featured in Malcolm Gladwell's 2008 book *Outliers: The Story of Success*. In the book, Gladwell explored why Langan's high intelligence had not translated into conventional success, drawing comparisons between Langan and J. Robert Oppenheimer and examining the role of environment in shaping achievement.
