    Biography

    Elizabeth Christiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire, was an English aristocrat and letter writer, known as Lady Elizabeth Foster before her marriage. She was a close friend of Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire. Elizabeth eventually replaced Georgiana in the affections of William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire, and married him. Her letters provide insight into the social and political life of the time.
