Brendan Coyle

Brendan Coyle is a British-Irish actor known for his stage and television work. He received the Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role for his portrayal in *The Weir* in 1999. Coyle has appeared in various television series, including *North & South*, where he played Nicholas Higgins, and *Lark Rise to Candleford*, in which he portrayed Robert Timmins in the first three series. More recently, he gained widespread recognition for his role as Mr. Bates, the loyal valet, in *Downton Abbey*. His performance earned him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
