Biography

Atli Örvarsson is an Icelandic film and TV composer, conductor, and musician who has won a BAFTA and received an Emmy nomination. His work includes over 40 major studio film productions, numerous television shows, collaborations with artists such as RZA, Khalid, and Talos, orchestral conducting, and solo projects. In 2024, he won the BAFTA TV Craft Award for his score for the Apple TV+ series *Silo* and was also nominated for an Emmy for the same work. Atli was born and raised in Akureyri, in northern Iceland. He spent many years living and working in Los Angeles before returning to Iceland in 2016, a move that marked a new phase in his career. Since then, he has worked with the Sinfonia Nord orchestra to establish Akureyri as an international destination for recording film scores. He founded the INNI label and studios to promote Icelandic artists internationally and released his solo debut album, *You Are Here*, in 2020. Atli's musical talent was evident from an early age. At five, he was given a music lesson by a relative and arrived for it the next morning at 10 a.m. As a teenager, he performed with a professional theatre ensemble and earned multiple gold and platinum records with the band Sálin hans Jóns míns. To expand his experience, he studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston and pursued a master’s degree at the University of North Carolina, where he deepened his focus on film composition. He later moved to Los Angeles, where he worked with composers Mike Post and Hans Zimmer. Atli has become one of Iceland's leading screen composers, winning the HARPA Nordic Film Composer Award for his score to *Rams* and receiving multiple ASCAP and BMI Film and TV Music Awards. He was nominated for Breakthrough of the Year at the IFMCA Awards in 2009 and Discovery of the Year by the World Soundtrack Academy in the same year. In 2019, his score for *Ploey: You Never Fly Alone* was nominated for a Public Choice Award. Looking ahead, Atli continues to build on his creative foundation, with ongoing film and TV projects and the potential of the INNI organization offering further opportunities.
