    Biography

    Adrienne Jo Barbeau is an American actress and author who has worked in film, television, and theater. She became well known in the 1970s for playing the original Betty Rizzo in the Broadway production of *Grease* and for her role as Carol Traynor, the divorced daughter of Maude Findlay, on the sitcom *Maude* (1972–1978). In the early 1980s, Barbeau shifted to horror and science fiction films, appearing in *The Fog* (1980), *Escape from New York* (1981), *Creepshow* (1982), and *Swamp Thing* (1982). She also voiced Catwoman in the DC Animated Universe. In the 2000s, she played Ruthie on the HBO series *Carnivàle* (2003–2005).
